Airvine University Video Series
Session 1 – Episode 1 (7:01 min.)
My name is David Sumi and I’m responsible for marketing at Airvine and what we’re going to share with you today are a series of short videos on selling Airvine’s WaveTunnel system.
I’m going to go very briefly over some key points some key features, we’re going to talk about some use cases, we’ll give a little bit of a product introduction.
The concept here is that there will be multiple chapters and you should be able to listen or view the chapters that are relevant for you.
With that chapter one is Who Are We and What is the Problem that We are Solving.
Airvine has looked at indoor wireless, and seen that there have been no innovations in indoor wireless since the introduction of the access point.
We also see quite a number of deployments, companies, hotels, hospitality a variety of different commercial enterprises, that are using legacy cable that might have been installed 20 years ago.
So our goal and our vision was to make backbone upgrades simple and secure using wireless technologies.
This will automatically reduce labor costs, it’ll reduce dependencies on secondary teams, cable installers, construction to conduit hangers — all of these go away and what you get instead with our simple system with multi-gigabit speeds, and you can increase the asset value for your MDU, your hotel factories, and more.
In-building back haul upgrades are cheaper, they’re faster, they’re secure. When we look at IoT network you can have a completely physical IoT network on the WaveTunnel system, separate from your OT traffic. When you’re looking at temporary events you can reduce setup time by almost double.
With all of those things coming out of Airvine you might wonder where have you guys been hiding? Well we were founded in 2017 we’re based in Santa Clara, Silicon Valley and we are here to deliver to you the only wireless back hall system you will ever need, so let’s move on key value propositions and use cases.
The beauty of the WaveTunnel system is it can be used as a cable replacement, cable augmentation, or cable extension in almost any commercial enterprise. We focus on these four (verticals) to highlight the key elements that the WaveTunnel brings to each of these verticals.
When we look at the multi family MDU market apartments, over 80% of these units have legacy cables, they do not have the backbone of the cable infrastructure to add new Wi-Fi access points. With greater capacity allowing more streaming when you use the Airvine WaveTunnel system, you minimize disruption to your residents, there’s no costly construction, the installation can be done in days, you maintain the integrity of your property and it’s a completely secure solution.
Likewise when we move on to hospitality people are demanding more of their hospitality network than ever before. Hotels are upgrading their Wi-Fi infrastructure and adding massive amounts of IoT devices and applications to the property, just to stay competitive and get people to come back again. With an Airvine backbone you additional guest services you can have a separate network that’s just for your staff and your and your backbone. Your administrative office again, no heavy construction no loss of revenue, you’re not closing a floor to upgrade the wiring in that floor, you’re installing some shoe box size devices on your ceiling.
When you look at the industrial market the driver for industrial is industry 4.0. In the days of old, a factory with heavy clanking machines and oil and dirty environments, those are gone. Your modern factory is now doing massive amounts of data transfers. 3D printing, robotics, real-time control of devices — all of these applications mean the existing infrastructure is either inadequate or not even there. Furthermore, factories and warehouses are 24×7 operations and you cannot afford downtime while you install over a week, or two weeks a new cable plant.
The fourth application, the fourth vertical market that we’re focusing on is large public venues. If you deploy an ethernet network for a concert, and then you bring in a car show, and then there’s a hockey game, all of these have different network deployments. They need the cables in different places. You can either wire, rewire, and rewire again, or you can deploy the WaveTunnel by Airvine, and just pick them up and move them wherever they need to go for each event.
And this is just some of the use cases that we’re going to focus on today. All of these use cases, and in fact all deployments, verify one of the things that we have seen in the market: many buildings have multiple networks, sometimes double digit networks, carrying different applications, different traffic. Sometimes it’s an application, sometimes it’s an entity (that) owns those cables and won’t allow other applications on them. Regardless, when you deploy a WaveTunnel network it’s your network and you can put all your applications on one network.
So a little bit about the box. It is a multi-gigabit wireless backbone powered by our software Vinesuite, and we’ll talk a little bit more about Vinesuite later. This system is extremely low latency, operating in a 60 GHz band, and has the capacity for Wi-Fi6, Wi-Fi6E, Wi-Fi7, 5G, new radio FTO cells, 4K security feeds and more. With the 60 GHz, what we’ve done is we are able to penetrate indoor walls and beam around corners. No one has ever done this before. Single node installation and configuration executed in less than an hour with a screwdriver and a smartphone–and it provides virtual and physical network segmentation for your IoT and your OT traffic and again no construction. A screwdriver to mount it to your ceiling, plug it in and away you go.
What WaveTunnel is not it is not Wi-Fi it is not a Wi-Fi access point it is not Wi-Fi mesh.
What it is is a point to point to point deployment of 60 GHz Wireless.
As you can see fiber cable have a lot of advantages if it’s there but if it’s not there then the time to install it the time it’s expensive and the construction is disruptive.
If you look at Wi-Fi mesh, it has been around a long time and has well-known issues. Not the least of which is increasing the noise floor and interference and the capacity per hop. The WaveTunnel (has)) multigig capacity, secure triple security, reliable affordable installs in days and no construction.
And that is a brief introduction to Airvine and the WaveTunnel.
